RUN WITH PURPOSE

RUNNING FOR FALLEN LAW
ENFORCEMENT

WHAT IS RUN ACROSS MICHIGAN ?

It’s the combination of two of Matt Garbarino’s passions: running and law enforcement. The reserve deputy with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office started Run Across Michigan—his successful quest to run across the state solo—to make a positive impact in the community.

Thanks to Matt’s incredible annual run, fallen police officers are never forgotten. And the Michigan chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (MI-COPS) is able to give more to the families who have lost someone in law enforcement.

Whatever your passions are, we encourage you to use them to make a positive impact and inspire others to do the same.

MEET MATT

I in live in Byron Center, MI and have served as a volunteer deputy with the Kent County Sheriff Office’s Traffic Squad unit since 2010. I have a passion for fitness and pursuing ways to help others with that passion. Join me in supporting this cause and honoring the brave men and women of law enforcement who actively serve and have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Fall 2020

100 miles in 24 hours

Western Michigan

Postponed to 2021

Matt's 2021 run will start in the town of Ashton, Michigan. From there, he will head south until the finish, 100 miles later just south of Grand Rapids.

The run was to originally be June 18 since it is near the date of the summer solstice and allows for maximum daylight running. And with National Police Week being cancelled because of COVID-19, the run would have provided another way to honor fallen officers. With recent events unfolding and national protests, it was decided to postpone the run until 2021.

Despite the change, Matt and his flag will be ready to run. Stay tuned to Run Across Michigan's Facebook page for updates.
